School Without Walls is making news regularly, as new products are brought to market. In their role as training and papermaking experts, the School Without Walls contributes are regular contributors to several P&P conferences, trade journals and newsletters.

Domtar Ashdown

The Domtar Ashdown mill will use the School Without Walls eLearning tools to help train its workforce. An important training project is ongoing to support the paper machine conversion at the Ashdown, Arkansas mill to a high quality fluff pulp line used in absorbent applications such as baby diapers, feminine hygiene and adult incontinence products.

Maintenance Skills Development at Norampac

Following a first phase launched in January 2013, The Niagara Falls mill will once again use HumEng’s mechanical maintenance eLearning modules to train new hires and to refresh the knowledge of its maintenance technicians.

NOVEMBER 2015

New project with WestRock

The WestRock Pointe-aux-Trembles facility gave HumEng the mandate to update the content and the mediatization of the training on manufacturing best practices and the HACCP system. The training will be available in asynchronous mode for all employees and will facilitate knowledge acquisition.

AUGUST 2015

Partnership between Fortress Specialty Cellulose and Humeng.

Humeng was selected by Fortress Specialty Cellulose, Thurso to develop a Health and safety eLearning solution for their contractors prior to their visit on site. This flexible solution will be available online and onsite. Contractors and subcontractors will be trained and certified prior to their visits. The notifications, registrations, certifications and reports will be managed by the HUMENG LMS (Learning Management System.

MARCH 2015

Fortress Specialty Cellulose, Thurso, Québec.

This specialty cellulose and cogeneration facility has selected HumEng to help it implement a hybrid training solution for its operators. The first step of the project consists of producing Skill Profiles for four operations jobs in the caustification and cogeneration departments. The Skill Profiles will then be used to identify and prioritize the training materials to be developed for on-the-job training. In addition, HumEng’s eLearning modules will be used for Health and Safety training. HumEng adult education experts will coach mill trainers and supervisors on how to implement these new training tools and keep the process alive.

Don shared tools and ideas on how to conduct a Training System Audit, an analysis that allows to identify the non-conformities and deviations from the “best practices” training process.

Little Rapids Corporation, Shawano Mill

This pulp and paper mill in Shawano Wisconsin has selected HumEng to help it implement a hybrid training solution for its operators. Its objective is to ensure the mill’s competitiveness during a time of massive retirements. The first step of the project consists of producing Skill Profiles for all the jobs of one of the three paper machines. The Skill Profiles will then be used to identify and prioritize the Standard Operating Procedures that need to be developed for on-the-job training, and the eLearning modules of the School Without Walls that need to be taken for knowledge training. HumEng adult education experts will coach mill trainers and supervisors on how to implement these new training tools and keep the process alive.

Norampac Cabano Mill

The Norampac Cabano mill has launched the second phase of its training program for operators. HumEng’s mandate is to help the mill complete the development of eLearning modules on papermaking and standard operating procedures, and implement the new training system. The project should be completed in the Spring of 2014. The mill will then be in a position to quickly and efficiently increase the skills of its employees and ensure its future competitiveness.

The Neenah Paper, Appleton mill located in Wisconsin has selected HumEng to help them build and implement a blended learning solution for their operations. The first phase of the training project entails the production of Skill Profiles for the senior operating positions on the paper machine. The Skill Profiles will then serve to identify and prioritize the Standard Operating Procedures to be produced as training aids for on-the-job training, and the School Without Walls eLearning modules to be used for training on generic pulping and papermaking concepts. Throughout the project, HumEng’s adult education specialists will train and support in-house coaches and leaders on how to implement these new training tools and keep them up-to-date and “alive”.

Following the production of operations Skill Profiles in 2011, we are happy to announce that the Norampac, Cabano mill has selected HumEng to develop and implement eLearning training modules on papermaking and Standard Operating Procedures. Completion date for the project is December 2013.

Skills Development at New Page, Stevens Point

The Stevens Point mill will have access to selected School Without Walls modules, as well as the corresponding assessments, to further the skills development of their employees. The eLearning modules will be used to complement the mill's practical training program . A mill representative has been trained to use the HumEng Learning Management System to assign modules and assessments to learners, track their progress and generate reports.

During the next several months, 34 paperboard machine operators and supervisors will take over 700 School Without Walls eLearning modules. The modules with provide them with the knowledge required to understand the "why" of what they do and increase their problem-solving skills.

Following a reorganization of the jobs on the paperboard machine, the mill has asked HumEng to produce the Skill Profiles of the five operations jobs. The Skill Profiles will serve to determine training needs and priorize the development of standard operating procedures.

Training plan implementation has included Humeng assisted development of Job Skill Profiles for key operator positions. The Skill Profiles are driving the development of critical training materials such as best practice SOPs and structured On the Job Training materials.

Domtar Nekoosa Mill Implements Pilot Program To Demonstrate Training Best Practices

Humeng and the Nekoosa mill are collaborating on a pilot training project involving two paper machine job positions on the No. 4 paper machine. The pilot provides economical opportunity to demonstrate and evaluate training best practices preparatory to rolling out a larger training initiative.

Domtar Rothschild Mill Uses School Without Walls To Improves Papermaking Skills

Machine crew members at the Rothschild mill are using School Without Walls on line eLearning in papermaking fundamentals and theory to complement their practical papermaking skills. Before and after trainee assessments show dramatic improvement in crew member knowledge of papermaking.

Norampac Niagara Falls Mill to Implement Training for more Efficient Start-Ups

A training roadmap for the four key jobs in the start-up of paper machine #1 as well as the corresponding Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) will be produced by HumEng International Inc.
The SOPs will be used in conjunction with the eLearning modules on papermaking of the School Without Walls to train paper machine operators, supervisors and technical personnel.
Norampac Niagara Falls mill manufacturer 190,000 metric ton of corrugated medium from 100% recycled fiber per year.

Packaging Corporation of America purchases School Without Walls training solutions.

THE SCHOOL WITHOUT WALLS ELEARNING WILL BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE PACKAGING CORPORATION OF AMERICA COMPETENCY BASED TRAINING PROGRAM.
The PCA, Counce, Tennessee mill has purchased the entire School Without Walls production series for their paper machine crew training. The School Without Walls training will prepare crew members for site specific equipment, procedures and on-job training. Humeng is working closely with Gregg Holland, Area Manager-Paper, on installation and implementation of the training.

Condition Monitoring Standards

HumEng International Inc. and IDCON are working with Creando Training AB, located in Karlstad, Sweden to make the Condition Monitoring Standards (CMS) available to the Swedish and Norwegian markets.
The CMSs are accessible by Internet and are used to train operators on how to inspect equipment to detect problems that could lead to costly failures.
Creando Training AB will be translating the CMS and marketing them in various industrial sectors of Sweden and Norway.

Norampac Trenton Mill to Identify its Papermaking Training Needs

The Norampac Trenton mill will be identifying their priority training needs for paper machine operators, and supervisory and technical personnel.
The assessments were created from the School Without Walls question banks on papermaking.
HumEng International Inc. will produce 11 job skill profiles and coach mill personnel on how to produce Standard Operation Procedures.
The Norampac Trenton mill produces 180,000 metric tons of corrugated medium from virgin and recycled fibers annually.

Norampac Mississauga Mill, HumEng and the School Without Walls

The Norampac Mississauga mill will implement the implement the HumEng International Inc. approach to training. This consists of producing Skill Profiles (training roadmap), taking the School Without Walls eLearning on pulping and papermaking and producing mill-specific Standard Operating Procedures.
The Norampac Mississauga mill manufactures linerboard made from 100% recycled fiber and has a capacity of 145,000 metric tons per year.

The site offers access to all School Without Walls eLearning content and assessments as well as to pertinent documents and announcements. We are confident that users and managers will prefer this new site. It offers more flexibility, more features and a more enjoyable learning environment. HumEng and IDCON team up to strengthen the School Without Walls maintenance product line.

IDCON’s first contribution to the impressive School Without Walls e-learning database is the 100 widely popular Condition Monitoring Standards (CMS). These new products and services will be a great addition to the existing School Without Walls maintenance training portfolio. The CMS are training and reference material on how to perform inspections on common equipment components such as AC Motors, Pumps, Valves, Cylinders, and much more. The CMS are used by both operations and maintenance for training and reference with equipment inspection routes.

Liberty Paper Incorporated (LPI) will use School Without Walls to train it’s production employees. – October 2008

LPI has selected the School Without Walls eLearning to increase the pulping and papermaking knowledge level of its workforce. The LPI mill is located in Becker, Minnesota and is a 100% recycled OCC paper mill. The mill is using the School Without Walls On-Demand solution to train their production employees on Pressing, Drying and Forming.
